Graphs/Charts/DatabasesThis is a featured page

I don't use electronic databases a great deal in my teahcing as I find Excel quite difficult to use. The tools below claim to make the proccess of creating charts from databases much simpler so could be worth a look. Let me know how you get on.

1. I Charts - The log in was not working the day I tried this tool which was a shame as it looks very good. You create an interactive chart which can be posted elsewhere for others to look at and even comment upon. I have posted an example below for you to try.

2. EditGrid - This tool is quite sophisticated and has the look of Microsoft Excel. You can collobarate with others to create databases and there is a chat function built in. The free version is for personal use and has all the major features. The paid version starts from $2.50 per user/per month for academic use.

3. Blist - I didn't really get Blist but as I said I don't really get databases in general so don't read too much into it. The Blist website claims, "Blist is the best choice for easily creating and sharing lists on the web. With blist you can organize the information that’s important to you, from making a personal to-do list to building a sophisticated business database.
blist is visual, interactive, and it keeps your information neat and tidy." It would seem that information can be uploaded from excel and then shared with others. I think the best thing would be to have a look for yourself, it certainly has the look of a useful tool.

4. Graphsy - Claims to be for drawing graphs but even after watching their video tutorials I couldn't see how it could be used for anything other than drawing shapes. It is in the early days of development so maybe will become clearer.

5. Create A Graph - This is a very simple and effective tool to help students create their own graphs. You can draw Bar, Pie, Line, Area and X,Y Graphs. Graphs can be saved, e-mailed or printed. There is an example below. Very child friendly.

6. Chart All - A very basic tool where the data can be typed in or uploaded. Charts can be viewed on-line or e-mailed.

7. Crappy Graphs - this one is just a bit of fun. May be useful to create an informal graph for a presentation. This is an example I found online which describes the Web 2.0 learning curve.

8. Many Eyes - You can use an existing data set or upload your own. What makes this site stand out is the number of different ways to represent the information. This includes Maps, Charts, TagClouds etc. This is an exampls of the Maps.

9. Chartle - One of the easiest chart making tools I have come across. You simply choose the type of chart (pie, line etc.), list the data being measured and the numbers. Hey presto a chart is produced. This is a screen shot of the tool with an example of an interactive map. which is a novel way to present your data.
